John J. Kasamis, a beloved figure in his community and a dedicated family man, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 30, 2025, at the age of 78, following an extended illness. Born on August 25, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana, he was the son of George and Doris Kasamis, both of whom preceded him in death.

John’s professional journey saw him excel as a local area regional national sales manager for Leer Caps, where he earned respect and admiration from colleagues and clients alike. His contributions to the industry and the friendships he cultivated throughout his career left a lasting impact.

A proud veteran, John served in the Marines and earned the National Defense Service Medal. His commitment to his nation was mirrored in his active participation in various veteran organizations, most notably as a 50+ year member of American Legion Post 223. During his tenure there, he served as the vice commander from 2007 to 2010 and fulfilled the role of a judge advocate for numerous years. John's legacy within the American Legion is a testament to his dedication to his fellow veterans. His community involvement extended beyond the American Legion as he also played an active role within the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 223 for 24 years, was a former member of VFW Post 1342 in Syracuse, and became a proud member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #3760 in 2016.

John's life was enriched by his hobbies and interests. He was an avid golfer and boater, relishing the times spent outdoors. Family gatherings were filled with laughter as he enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with friends. His zest for life and love for those around him shone brightly through these cherished moments.

John is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Nicole (Mitch) Thorson, her children Zane and Cole Thorson, of Elkhart and Michele Leno and her children of South Bend. He is also survived by his sister, Jennifer (John) Kasamis Ball of Vandalia, MI, and his nephews Christopher (Marissa Tinkle) Ball, Adam Ball, and Alex (Briana) Ball, great-nephew Kayson and great-niece Saylor. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffery P. Kasamis.
