Biography
John Richard Shear, better known as “Bud,” passed away on Friday, June 03, 2016 at 12:30 PM at Grace Village Healthcare in Winona Lake, IN. He was in the loving presence of his family at the time of his passing.
Born on December 28, 1928, he was the son of Marion E. and Elma A. (Eberly) Shear. He was born in Pierceton, IN and graduated there from Pierceton High School in 1946.
Bud was married to Donna Roberts on May 15, 1948 in Columbia City, IN in the home of Pastor Shearer. Together Bud and Donna made their home in Kosciusko County where they made many wonderful memories and shared 68 years together.
Bud had worked as an auto mechanic for a number of years and also as a truck driver, but it was working as a school bus driver which he found most rewarding. He especially enjoyed driving the Warsaw girls’ basketball team and he was sure to give them a hard time as he picked on them.
He had been a member of the Mizpah Shrine Temple, Fort Wayne and the Shrine Horse Patrol for nearly 30 years and had been a member of the Pierceton Masonic Lodge F. & A. M. 377 for more than 50 years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved horseback riding.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife: Donna Shear of Warsaw; son and daughter-in-law: Steven and Michele Shear of Murfreesboro, TN; daughter and son-in-law: Cathy and Dennis Lundgren of Warsaw; four grandsons: Christopher Aker of Warsaw, Michael (wife Jen) Shear of Naperville, Ill., David (wife Sara) Shear of Franklin, TN and Adam Shear of Mishawaka, IN; a granddaughter: Courtney (husband Troy) King of Warsaw and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding Bud in death were his parents: Marion and Elma Shear; a brother: Charles Shear and a sister: Helen Baxter.
Friends and family may gather for a time of visitation on Monday, June 6th from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 in Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw. A graveside service will be held in Warsaw's Oakwood Cemetery Tuesday, July 12th at 1 PM.
The family has asked that gifts in memory of Bud be directed to the Grace Village Retirement Community to support the Activities Department, 337 Grace Village Dr., Winona Lake, IN 46580.
