Biography
John F. Smith, 77, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 5:10 PM in his Warsaw, Indiana home.
The son of Roy and Bertha (Holderman) Smith, John was born March 19, 1938 in Mentone, Indiana and was a 1956 graduate of Mentone High School. On December 3, 1979 he and Gelenia Diane Young were married in Warsaw, Indiana.
A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, John worked at Medtronic for 21 years retiring in 1994 as an electrical mechanic.
He was a past trustee of VFW Men’s Auxiliary Post 1126 and past trustee of Eagles. John was a member of Kosciusko County Saddle Club and known to the equine community as Grandpa Smith. He was past director of Francis Slocum Trail Riders. John was a shuffleboard player who loved camping and playing computer games.
Survivors include his wife, Gelenia; 2 sons: John Stephen (and Laura) Smith, Sandwich, Illinois; and Bruce a Smith of Warsaw; daughter: Melissa (and Tom) Sorg of Kimmel, Indiana; 2 step daughters: Desiree (and Darcy) Whetstone, Etna Green, Indiana; Ramona (and Robert) Peterson, Warsaw; a step son: Steven (Penny) Thomas, Warsaw; sister: Carol (and Mike) Engle, Pierceton, Indiana; brother: Charles (and Diane) Smith of Claypool, Indiana; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren.
A brother: Walter Smith, and a sister: Wanda Smith preceded him in death.
There will be a time for family and friends to gather sharing memories in support of one another Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 2-5 PM at Titus Funeral Home 2000 E. Sheridan Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580.
A service celebrating John’s life will follow beginning at 5 PM in the funeral home. Pastor Bob Jarboe, Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice chaplain will officiate.
The family has asked that gifts in memory of John be directed to Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice, PO Box 1196, Warsaw, Indiana 46581-1196.
