Joseph Mort

Joseph E. Mort passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 5:59 p.m. in Parkview-Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, Indiana. He was 90.
Born June 6, 1927 to Royal Casper and Roxie Ruth (Thompson) Mort, Joseph was a 1945 graduate of Pierceton High School.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force October 4, 1945 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana and served in airplane maintenance. Sgt. Joseph E. Mort was honorably discharged August 3, 1948 at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington.
A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, Joe was a farmer for 30 years. He then was a meat inspector for the State of Indiana until he retired at the age of 85. He was a member of the Pierceton American Legion Post #258.
Left with memories to treasure, those who survive are 2 sons: Rev. Kevin Mort of St. Petersburg, Florida and Tristan (and Janice) Mort of Syracuse, Indiana; 2 daughters: Joni (and Bob) Walter, Nappanee, Indiana and Janeen (and Tony) Meinert, Claypool, Indiana; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Joseph was preceded in passing by his wife, Marilyn Mort (February 22, 2016); son: Collin Joseph Mort (August 21, 2008); 2 brothers: Howard Mort and Daniel Mort; and sister: Betty Walgamuth.
There will be no visitation and a private family graveside service in Oaklawn Cemetery (North Manchester) is being planned. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Pierceton American Legion Post #258.
