Joseph Jay “Joey” DeWitt, 52, of Pierceton, IN passed away at 10:41 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at his home. He was born on July 19, 1965 in Garrett, IN to Joe Harold & Ella Nora (Wolonski) DeWitt.

He was a lifetime Syracuse / North Webster area resident and graduated in 1983 from Wawasee High School in Syracuse.  He was married on December 18, 1993 in Syracuse, IN to Cynthia S. “Cyndi” (Mullins) Hawthorne who survives. He formerly worked at The Car Company in Warsaw for 3 years, Supreme Corporation in Goshen for 15 years, and Keystone Corporation in Wakarusa for 3 years.

He formerly attended the St. Martin’s De Porres Catholic Church in Syracuse and loved to fish.

He is survived by:

Wife - Cyndi DeWitt of Pierceton

Step Daughter – Stephanie (Nate Ott) Cannon of Syracuse

3 Step Sons – David Hawthorne of Syracuse, Brock Hawthorne of Syracuse, and Joshua (Courtney Ruggier) Hawthorne of Warsaw

14 Step Grand & 3 Step Gt. Grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13 & C.R. 500 N, North Webster, IN 46555. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Sam Carns of Open Bible Baptist Church of Warsaw, IN officiating. Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd. 15, Warsaw, IN.

Preferred memorials may be given to the Joseph DeWitt Funeral Fund c/o Owen Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 72, North Webster, IN 46555.
