Kenneth E. Menzie, 73, passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 2, 2013 at 6:05 PM in the home of his daughter, Darlene, where he had lived for the past 4 years.
He was born December 21, 1939 to Kenneth and Elsie (Kirkpatrick) Menzie in South Bend, Indiana - where he lived most of his life. Ken was a 1958 graduate of South Bend's John Adams High School. He served in the United States Air Force from which he was honorably discharged.
Ken was first married to Joyce Barson on June 4, 1960 in South Bend. He later married Nancy VanDenHandel in August of 1990, also in South Bend.
Ken was employed by Elixir Industries retiring from its Elkhart facility in 2007 as shop foreman after 30 years of service.
He enjoyed playing golf and watching football. His favorite teams were Notre Dame and Florida State…he was always a winner when the two of them played. He was an avid card player. Ken's, sometimes rough exterior, gave way to a softer heart.
Ken is survived by 4 children. They are son and daughter-in-law: Donnie and Judy Menzie, Mishawaka, Indiana; 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Dianne and Jerry Szmanda, South Bend; Darlene and Jim Krallman, Warsaw; and Denise and Will Van Scoyk of South Bend; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law: Terri Jo and Art Van Laecke of Niles, Michigan and Marjorie and Mark Stephenson of Moultrie, Georgia; mother: Elsie Townsend, also of Moultrie; 8 grandchildren and their spouses: Amber and Chris Solina of North Webster, Indiana; Matthew and Jessica Krallman of Mishawaka; Jennifer and Adam Habegger, Warsaw, Andrew Krallman, Warsaw, Kaci Menzie, Mishawaka, Tony and Danielle Evanoff, South Bend, Bryan Evanoff, South Bend; and Austin Szmanda, at home; also surviving are 8 great grandchildren: Aric, August, Jordan, Landen, Cameron, Logan, Sienna and Katie.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife: Nancy Menzie on October 11, 1995 and his step father, Donald Townsend on April 16, 2009.
Family and friends will gather for a time of sharing in support of each other Friday, December 6th from 10 AM to 12 Noon at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. A service celebrating the life of Kenneth E. Menzie will begin at 12 noon. Pastor Michael Hontz of Pleasant View Bible Church, Warsaw, will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
