Kenneth "Ken" L. Gillenwater

Kenneth L. “Ken” Gillenwater, 64, of Pierceton, IN passed away at 3:45 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015 in Albion, IN. He was born on August 7, 1950 in Bluefield, W. VA to George & Josephine (Rose) Gillenwater.

He grew up in Bluefield, W. VA, graduated in 1968 from Norfolk High School in Norfolk, VA and in 1970 from Bluefield College. He was a United States Army Veteran and was married on September 1, 1987 in Tazewell, VA to Kellie J. Carpenter who survives. He was the former owner / operator of Lions Academy in North Webster where he served as the martial arts instructor for nearly 30 years and he was also in a traveling band for many years. He moved to the Pierceton / North Webster area 30 years ago from Mishawaka, IN.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster and former member of the North Webster Lions Club.

He is survived by:

Wife – Kellie Gillenwater of Pierceton

Daughter – Kimberly (Chad) Brennaman of Syracuse

Son – Josh (Fiancé – Vanessa Uzubell) Gillenwater of North Webster

3 Grandchildren – Madison Brennaman, Delilah Howey, & Kingston Brennaman

Mother – Josephine Gillenwater of Princeton, W. VA

Sister – Tina Gillenwater of Occoquan, VA

He was preceded in death by his father & sister – Marsha Gillenwater.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13, & CR 500N, North Webster, IN.  Memorial services will follow at 7:00 in the funeral home on Saturday. Military services will also follow at the funeral home by the North Webster American Legion Post 253.  Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County in Warsaw, IN

Memorial bequest may be given to the ALS Association (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), Gift Processing Center, PO Box 6051, Albert Lea, MN 56007. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
