Kent Slocum

Kent D. Slocum, 75, of Syracuse passed away at 10:25 a.m. on November 1, 2008 in his residence after a brief illness. He was born on February 17, 1933 in Indianapolis, IN to Robert & Edith (Giles) Slocum.

After he graduated in 1952 from Tipton High School he served in the United States Air Force, where he put his technical expertise to work in maintaining the B-29 bomber. He was married to Carolyn Clark and together they owned & operated Economy Gas & Oil in Elwood for 25 years. He retired in 1996 from Shepard Tool, Inc. in Elwood and moved to Syracuse in 1997 from Elwood.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Indianapolis & Elks Lodge in Elwood. He was also an accomplished artist. He studied painting and drawing under Henrietta Wyeth in New Mexico and earned much praise at exhibits of his artwork.

He is survived by:

2 Sons - Kim Slocum of Syracuse & Grant Slocum of San Diego, CA
2 Grandchildren - Taylor & Paige Slocum of Syracuse

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Military graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the Fairview Cemetery 418 Fairview Ave, Tipton, IN.

Memorial bequests may be given to the Kosciusko Home Care & Hospice, P. O. Box 1196, Warsaw, Indiana 46581. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or graveside.
