Larry A. DeWitt, 75, of Syracuse, IN died at 3:15 a.m. on Monday, January 11, 2010 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born on August 2, 1934 in Corunna, IN to Merton & Margaret L. (Dawson) DeWitt.
He attended DeKalb County Public Schools and graduated in 1952 from Waterloo-Grant Township High School and in 1960 from Tri State College in Angola, IN. He was a United States Army Veteran and moved to Syracuse in 1970 from Goshen. He retired in 1997 as a Civil Engineer with Rieth-Riley Construction Company in Goshen after 40 years of service. He was a member of the North Webster American Legion Post 253, V.F.W. # 985 in Goshen, Eagles Lodge # 3760 in Syracuse, Tyrian Masonic Lodge # 718 in Goshen, and was a Shriner.
He is survived by:
1 Daughter - Mrs. Terry (Marti) Likens of North Webster;
2 Sons - Mark (wife, Jill) DeWitt of New Paris & Mike DeWitt of Syracuse;
8 Grand & 4 Gt. Grandchildren;
1 Sister - Mrs. Charles (Myrna) Smith of Indianapolis, IN;
1 Brother - Donald (wife, Cindy) DeWitt of Columbus, OH;
Cousin - Joseph DeWitt of Syracuse.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter - Tara Likens, and brother - Neal DeWitt.
Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the funeral home with Fred Clark officiating. Military rites will be held at the funeral home following the funeral service by North Webster American Legion. Private family services and burial will be in the Corunna Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial bequest may be given to North Webster American Legion Youth Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
