Leland William “Bill” Ginger, 75, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Millers Merry Manor in Syracuse. He was born on July 21, 1935 in Columbia City, IN to Kenneth & Jessie (Lehman) Ginger.
He lived most of his life in the Syracuse area except for his years in the military and graduated in 1954 from Syracuse High. He served for 27 years in the United States Army which included 3 tours of duty in Vietnam, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Award.
He was married on July 3, 1980 in Syracuse to Mildred M. “Milly” (Bobeck) Savage who survives.
He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, American Legion Post 215 in LaGrange, IN, V.F.W Post 1342 in Syracuse, Hex Farmers Club, and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by:
Wife – Milly Ginger of Syracuse
3 Daughters – Teresa of Milford, Carmelita of NJ, & Claudia of WV
1 Son – Kevin Ginger of OR
15 Grand & 3 Gt. Grandchildren
1 Step Daughter - Mrs. Dennis (Beth Woods) of Syracuse
2 Step Sons – Steve (wife, Jeannie) Savage of Warsaw & Joe (wife Alyson) Savage of Syracuse
2 Sisters – Sharon Ordat of North Webster & Kay Carter of Goshen
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 -8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the funeral home with Rev. David Herr of the church officiating. Military graveside services will follow at the Hire Cemetery in Ligonier by Syracuse VFW and LaGrange American Legion.

Memorial bequests may be given to Goshen Care at Home Hospice, P.O. Box 723, Goshen, IN 46526. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
