Lexie Adkins Stephens a longtime resident of Pierceton, was called Home into eternal rest on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 9 p.m. Age 90, she was living at Paddock Springs Healthcare at the time of her death. She was the matriarch of a large, loving family to whom she was known as “Granny.”
Born as Lexie Grace Conn on August 24, 1929 near Printer, Kentucky, Lexie was the daughter of Wilburn and Tennessee (Hamilton) Conn and one of ten children. She was married to Randall Adkins on November 8, 1947 though he preceded her in passing on January 12, 1955. Later (August 29, 1958), she was married to Robert Stephens; he too preceded her in passing on December 5, 1988.
Granny enjoyed cooking and baking and is remembered for her large country breakfasts, her homemade desserts and her huge vegetable garden. She loved time spent with family, playing cards and visiting. She was an avid BINGO, Rook and Euchre player. She was previously a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Pierceton.
Those who survive with memories to cherish include sons: Don (Dian) Adkins of Pierceton, Danny (Vicky) Adkins of Hunstville, AL, Ronnie Stephens of Warsaw, Gary (Cecelia) Adkins of Milford, Junior (Melanie) Stephens of Warsaw, Joe (Beth) Stephens of Claypool; daughters: Faye Campbell of Warsaw, Cookie (Bill) Bryant of Warsaw, Debra (Terry) Thompson of Warsaw, Rita (Kenny) Elder of Pierceton, Lena (Joe) Ball of Burket, Tena (Brooks) Huffer of Warsaw, and Belva Stephens of Warsaw; daughter-in-law, Paula Adkins; brothers: Curtis Conn, David (Pat) Conn and Troy (Joan) Conn all of Louisville; sisters: Eunice Samons of Martin, KY, Marceline Hyden of Louisville and Linda (Sherman) Martin of Louisville. Also surviving are 49 grandchildren, 96 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren and an honorary son, Sam (Judy) Lambert of Baxter, TN. In addition to two husbands, the following preceded her in passing: sons, Dean Adkins and Ray Stephens; daughters, Okie Baker and twin infants, Sharon and Karen; grandchildren: Stacy Bryant and Mark Sexton, sisters: Loretta Risner, Rose Hyden and Joan Lafferty and her parents.
Granny’s Life Celebration® is planned with Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw where visitors may gather on Friday, February 28, 2020 from 2 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, a funeral which celebrates her life will be held at Warsaw Family Worship Center, 1250 Husky Trail, Warsaw beginning at 10 a.m. with gathering for one hour prior. Pastor William Whitaker will officiate with burial following in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
