Lois Evelyn Allen

Lois Evelyn Allen, 87, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 6:52 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse, IN. She was born on April 20, 1930 in Marion, IN to Verlin M. & Delores Mabel (Owings) Harter.

She graduated in 1947 from Sweetser High School in Sweetser, IN. On September 9, 1951 in Sweetser, IN she married Dale Arnold Allen who preceded her on August 16, 2012. She was a homemaker and formerly worked as a young lady at First National Bank in Marion.She moved to Syracuse in 1958 from Sweetser, IN.

She was an active member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Syracuse where she volunteered at the United Methodist Women’s Thrift Shop in Syracuse. She was a former member of the P.E.O. in Warsaw and enjoyed playing bridge with friends.

She is survived by:

Daughter – Dr. Karen Allen (Delos “Dee”) Keene of Raleigh, NC

Son – Dr. Larry (Fran) Allen of Syracuse

6 Grandchildren – Mitchell Whitehead, Bruce (Brenda) Whitehead, Andrew (Claire) Whitehead, Katie (Luke) Clark, Karla Allen, and Danny Allen

1 Great Grandson James Whitehaed

2 Brothers – Dale Harter of West De Moines, IA & Lowell (Doretta) Harter of Sweetser

She was preceded in death by her parents & husband.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse and 1 hour prior to services on Wednesday. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at St. Andrews United Methodist Church 1413 N. Long Dr., Syracuse, IN with Pastor Dee Keene officiating. Private burial will take place in the Syracuse Cemetery.
