Lyle R. Mayhew

Lyle R. Mayhew, 72, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at his home. He was born on June 4, 1943 in Clare, MI to Arthur & Ethel (Johnston) Mayhew.

He attended Clare High School, was a United States Army veteran, and moved to the Syracuse area in 1983 from Hillsdale, MI. He was married on October 7, 1994 to Beth Ann (Anglemyer) Minnix who preceded him on April 14, 2014. He retired in 2003 from Dana Corporation after 30 years and formerly worked at Culver Military Academy in Culver, IN for 3 years as a drill sergeant.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 223, V.W.F. & Eagles Lodge all of Syracuse.

He is survived by:

2 Sons – Rob (Stacy Naugler) Mayhew & Mark Mayhew both of Syracuse

Step Daughter – Tina (Steve) Phipps of Warsaw

Step Son – Tracy (Renee) Minnix of Syracuse

4 Grand, Several Step Grand and Step Gt. Grandchildren

2 Sisters – Jessie Wilson of Clare, MI & Annabelle Curtis of Midland, MI

2 Brothers – Leon Mayhew of Prescott, AZ & Stewart Mayhew of Coleman, MI

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, step-son – Troy Minnix, sister – Ramona Stebelton and 2 brothers – Bill & Ernest Mayhew.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Harlan Steffen of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel officiating. Military services will be performed by the American Legion Post 223 in Syracuse.Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd. 15, Warsaw, IN. Private family burial will take place in the Syracuse Cemetery.
