Mack Eugene Amiss, known by many as “Jake,” passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11:59 PM in Warsaw’s Kosciusko Community Hospital. He was 83 years old at the time of his passing.
Jake was born on September 9, 1933 in Wabash, Indiana. He was the son of the late James H. and Lavon V. (Hildenbrand) Amiss. Jake graduated from Laketon High School, Laketon, Indiana in 1952.
A veteran of the United States Navy, he was inducted on December 2, 1955 and was stationed on Whidbey Island in Washington state. He served as an aviation structural mechanic. Petty officer 3rd class, Mack E. Amiss, was honorably discharged through Whidbey Island on August 30, 1957.
He and Marjorie E. Banghart were married on June 6, 1993 in Warsaw. She survives in Warsaw.
Jake had retired from Da-Lite screen in 1991 with more than 30 years of service. He is a member of Warsaw Masonic Lodge No 73 F. & AM for more than 50 years and a 35 year of American Legion Post 402 in Laketon. He is also a member of Collamer First Church of God.
A humble man with a strong work ethic, Jake had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed farming and loved animals – especially dogs. He enjoyed word working, making bird houses and also enjoyed country music. He loved his family immensely.
In addition to his wife of 23 years, Marjorie Amiss, those left to cherish his memory include four sons: Shanon (Rebecca) Amiss of Claypool, Jeff Amiss of Carmel, Michael (Suzanne) Amiss of Carmel and Ted Harrell of Warsaw; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Casandra) Amiss of North Manchester and sister, Patricia (Max) Weller of Roann, Indiana.
The family will receive friends in a time of visitation on Monday, April 10th from 10 AM to Noon in Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw. A funeral service which celebrates Jake’s life will begin at 12, Noon with Pastor Jeff Pfieffer of Warsaw Community Church officiating. Burial will follow in Warsaw’s Oakwood Cemetery with military graveside honors conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
