Martha L. “Marty” Scearce, 87, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 12:55 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Towne House Retirement Community in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on January 2, 1931 in Syracuse, IN to Leo Burtram “Burt” & Mary H. “Hazel” (Dewart) Whitehead.
She graduated in 1948 from Syracuse High School and in 1952 from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. She was married on June 21, 1952 in Syracuse, IN (Dewart Lake) to Donald G. “Don” Scearce who preceded her on December 2, 2010. She grew up in Syracuse, lived in Fort Wayne for 12 years, and Warsaw for 30 years before moving back to Syracuse for retirement. She was the co-owner & operator of Scearce & Associates in Warsaw, IN as office manager for 10 years.
She was a member of the North Webster United Methodist Church, & P.E.O. Sister Hood - Chapter E.J. She was an avid bridge player, reader, and genealogist.
She is survived by:
Daughter – Susan (Stan) Rice of Fort Wayne
Son – Gary (Vickie) Scearce of Crown Point, IN
5 Grand – Matthew & Katie Scearce, Alexandra, William, and Michael Rice
6 Gt. Grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother – Lyle Whitehead.
Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd 15, Warsaw, IN. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the United Methodist Church, 7822 E Epworth Forest Rd, North Webster, IN. Private family burial will take place in the Salem Cemetery near Milford at a later date.
