Martin Hernandez Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed unexpectedly in his residence on Friday, January 3, 2025 at the age of 72. He was born on August 19, 1952, in Brownsville, Texas, the son of Juanita Reyes. Martin lived a life full of love, laughter, and passion.
On September 12, 1969, Martin married Maria “Mary” del Socorro Garcia. The two shared 51 years together before she passed in November of 2020. They spent their lives raising their four children.
A man known for his sense of humor, Martin had a unique ability to light up any room with his funny sayings and warm personality. He pursued his many interests with excitement, especially his love of music. His music passion was evident through his guitar playing and singing, connecting with those around him. He even played in a band for many years. Martin was also a true sports enthusiast, being an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs, but he truly loved all sports.
Family was the cornerstone of Martin's life, where he found his true love and pride in the achievements of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He adored his daughters: Ann (Todd) Yates of Mentone, Tina (Albert Elizondo) Hernandez of Warsaw, and Linda Hernandez of Warsaw. He treasured his grandchildren—Niya Sainer, Kendric Fortner, McKenzie Elizondo, Keegan (Mia) Hernandez, Kaleb (Ellie) Schneidewent, and Ethan Yates—and reveled in the joy of being a great-grandfather to Braelyn, Jadyn, Jocelyn, Roman, Heath, Ambrose, and a baby Schneidewent. He joins his mother, Juanita Reyes, his wife, Mary Hernandez, his son, Martin Hernandez Jr., and his granddaughter, Taylyn Alexis in eternal rest.
Titus Funeral Home of Warsaw is entrusted with the care of Martin. Family and friends may gather there, 2000 Sheridan St. Warsaw, IN, for visitation on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and again from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Martin’s Life Celebration service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:00 am with doors opening one hour prior. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Oakwood Cemetery.
