Mary C. (Truex) Pike, a longtime resident of the Atwood and Clunette area, passed away quietly on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. She was 98 years old.
Born outside Clunette on March 17, 1921, she was the third of ten Truex children and the daughter of Algie and Martha (Grove) Truex. She was a 1939 graduate of Atwood High School and worked at Blue Bell after graduating. On November 8, 1947, Mary was married to Eldon Pike in Elkhart.
Mary was a generous, caring person who rarely new a stranger. This was fitting for her as she and her husband owned and operated Pike’s Service Station in Atwood until their retirement in 1983. Mary was always ready to help others whether with a squeegee at the gas pump or with kind words. She is remembered for her wonderful cooking skills, her large garden from which she canned, her beautiful flowers and her green thumb.
Mary was incredibly proud of her nieces and nephews and loved time spent with them; many of her nieces and nephews survive. Also surviving is her brother, James (wife, Donna Jane) Truex and two sisters-in-law: Arlene Truex and Louise Truex. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Eldon Pike; four brothers: Harold, Clyde, Thomas and John Truex and sisters: Geraldine Null, Joy Keil, Barbara Mosier and Inabelle Krou.
