Mary Sumner

Mary H. Sumner, 73, of Syracuse, IN died at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2009 at Goshen General Hospital in Goshen, IN. She was born June 20, 1936 in Hammond, IN to Ray & Mabel (Wright) Hahn.
She graduated in 1954 from Hammond High School, attended Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, MI & Indiana University where she received her BA degree. She received her Masters Degree at the University of Wisconsin. She was married August 27, 1960 in Hammond, IN to Dr. Roger D. Sumner Sr. who preceded her in death in 1989.
She was a licensed teacher and registered nurse. She formerly taught school in Washington, D.C. & Pittsburgh, PA. She was a nurse for Harmarville Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburgh, PA, Vicksburg Medical Center in Vicksburg, MS & Lakeland Rehab & Health Care in Milford, IN. She moved to the Dewart Lake area in 1993 from Vicksburg, MS.
She is survived by:
1 Daughter - Mrs. Dennis (Sharon) Lott of San Antonio, TX;
1 Son - Roger Sumner Jr. of Syracuse
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery.
