Mary Catherine Gunkel

Mary Catherine (Hensinger) Gunkel, 59, of Leesburg, IN passed away at 8:41 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at her residence. She was born on December 15, 1956 in Fort Wayne, IN to Daniel J. & Dorothy M. (Litchfield) Hensinger.

She graduated in 1975 from Bishop Dwenger High School in Fort Wayne and on July 25, 1975, at the Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Fort Wayne, she married Michael R. “Mike” Gunkel, who survives.  She moved to the Leesburg area from Fort Wayne 30 years ago and worked for 27 years as a cake decorator at New Market in North Webster.

She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Pierceton, IN and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #253 in North Webster.

She is survived by:

Husband – Mike Gunkel of Leesburg

Daughter – Stacy (Mathew) Cole of Leesburg

2 Sons – Adam (Charisse) Gunkel of North Webster & Josh (Ashley Shafer) Gunkel of Leesburg

8 Grandchildren & 1 Gt. Grandchild

Mother – Dorothy Hensinger of Fort Wayne

5 Sisters – Jeanne (Harold) Gunkel of Leesburg, Carol (Randy) Arnold, Peggy (Larry) Early, Janet (Bill) Hause, & Linda (Harley) Herron all of Fort Wayne

3 Brothers – Ron (Cindy) Hensinger of Texas, Steve (Phyllis) Hensinger & Tom (Sheryl) Hensinger both of Fort Wayne

26 Nieces and Nephews & 67 Gt. Nieces and Nephews

She was preceded in death by her father, sister – Kathy Wallace, & brother – Kennith Hensinger.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13 & CR 500N, North Webster, IN. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the St. Francis Catholic Church, 408 W. Catholic St., Pierceton, IN with Father Chuck Herman of the church officiating.  A visitation time will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the church.  Burial will follow at the Mock Cemetery in North Webster.

Preferred memorials may be made to the family to assist with Mary’s medical expenses. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
