Mary Ellen Bushong

Mary Ellen Bushong, 90, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 2:27 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at I.U. Goshen Hospital in Goshen, IN. She was born on October 7, 1924 in Elkhart, IN to Martin & Ida (Klawitter) Kunkel.

She grew up in Elkhart, graduated in 1942 from Elkhart Central High School and lived most of her life in Syracuse. She was married on September 30, 1945 in Elkhart, IN to Avon J. Bushong, who survives. She was a homemaker & formerly worked at Syracuse Elementary School in the cafeteria for 20+ years.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Syracuse and volunteered at Goshen Hospital for 20 years.

She is survived by:

Husband – Avon Bushong of Syracuse

Daughter – Mary Kay Ridings of Syracuse

Son – Douglas (Liz) Bushong of Johnson City, TN

3 Grand & 4 Gt. Grandchildren

Brother Robert Kunkel of South Bend

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2015 at Grace Lutheran, 203 E. Main St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Friday in the church with Pastors Wendy Piano & Carl Satre of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.

Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN is in charge of all arrangements.
