Biography
Maurice M. “Maurie” McDaniel, 97, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 11:10 AM in Millers Merry Manor, Warsaw, Indiana.
Born March 13, 1918, Maurie was the son of Joseph and Cora (Koser) McDaniel. He was a 1937 graduate of Atwood High School, Atwood, Indiana.
He took Hattie M. Stidham to be his bride on April 29, 1940 in Wilmore, Kentucky.
Maurie, a lifetime Kosciusko County resident, was a poultry farmer.
He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church (Atwood) and was a charter member of Atwood Lions Club. He was on the Kosciusko County Drainage Board and was awarded the Outstanding Citizen of Kosciusko County. Maurie was chosen to be the grand marshal and honorary mayor of the Atwood Centennial Celebration.
Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law: John B. and Paula McDaniel, Warsaw; Bruce and Darcy McDaniel of Loveland Colorado; 1 daughter: Rebecca McDaniel of Cincinnati, Ohio. Additionally there are 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren. A sister, Ruth Wehrenberg of Libertyville, Illinois also remains.
Maurie was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Hattie “Pat” McDaniel, who passed away August 17, 2003 and a sister, Frances Williams, who passed away July 21, 1997.
Family and friends will gather Friday, May 22nd from 11 AM – 1 PM at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580. A service celebrating Maurie’s life will begin then at 1 PM in the funeral home with Pastor Denny Wilson of Warsaw Community Church, Warsaw, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
The family has asked that memorial gifts be given to K-21 Foundation, PO Box 1810, Warsaw, Indiana 46581-1810.
