Maxie E. Smith

Maxie E. Smith, 74, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 2:20 PM in Mason’s Health Care & Rehabilitation, Warsaw, Indiana.
Maxie was born March 13, 1940 in Plymouth, Indiana to Sylvester and Myrtle (Himes) Smith.
He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County and was a driver for Horizon Transport retiring in 2012 after 22 years of service. Maxie enjoyed watching western movies, working puzzles, games and sporting events and was a Norte Dame fan. He attended Clunette United Methodist Church, Clunette, Indiana.
On July 28, 1962 he and Beverly K. Spangle were married until her death on June 25, 1990. Then Maxie married Diane Hepler on September 14, 1990.
Survivors include his wife: Diane Smith; daughter and son-in-law: Kelly and Dan Hale; son and daughter-in-law: Jeff and Diane Hathaway – all of Silver Lake; 5 grandchildren: Keira (Zach) Collins, Mentone, Indiana; Sierra Hale, Warsaw; Jacob Hathaway, North Manchester, Indiana; Jason Hathaway, North Manchester; Danielle (James) Childress of Trenton, Georgia; 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law: Steve and Linda Smith, Sidney, Indiana; and Philip and Laura Smith, Warsaw.
In addition to his parents and first wife, preceding him in death was his sister, Donna Kiser (March 28, 2012).
Friends and family will gather for a memorial service on Sunday, November 23, 2014, 1 PM at the Nye Youth Cabin, Warsaw. Pastor Fannie Hale will be officiating.
The family has asked that gifts in Maxie’s memory be given to a charity of choice or simple acts of kindness may be done for others in his memory.
