Melvin L. "Mel" Weaver

January 22, 1927 — February 6, 2018

Melvin L. “Mel” Weaver, 91, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 4:50 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at his home. He was born on January 22, 1927 in Warsaw, IN to Russell & Mary Jane (Polk) Weaver.

He lived most of his life in the Syracuse area, attended Syracuse Public Schools and took welding classes in Columbia City, IN. He was married on April 18, 1954 in Syracuse, IN to Ethel M. Denton who survives. He was a former Bus Driver for Wawasee Community School Corporation for 31 years and worked for Indiana Restaurant in Warsaw for 20 years. He was the former owner / operator of Weavers Duck Farms for 27 years & Weavers Welding in Syracuse for many years.

He was a member of the Church of God in Syracuse and former member of the Good Sam Camping Club.

He is survived by:

Wife – Ethel Weaver of Syracuse

Daughter – Janet (Ken) Davies of Fort Wayne

2 Sons – Gary (Marsha) Weaver of North Webster & Kenneth (Carol) Weaver of Fort Wayne

6 Grand, 11 Gt. Grand, and 9 Step Gt. Gt. Grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents & brother – Walter Weaver.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 in the funeral home with Pastors Stan Owen & Brad Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.

Preferred memorials may be given to the Melvin Weaver Funeral Fund, c/o Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN 46567.
