Merl D. Laughlin, 83, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 4:43 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Millers Merry Manor in Syracuse. He was born on March 10, 1927 in Syracuse to Merl & Wava (Gordon) Laughlin.
He was a lifetime Syracuse area resident and attended Syracuse Public Schools. He served in the United States Army and was married on December 31, 1949 in North Webster, IN to Nadena M. Coy who preceded him in death on March 15, 1990.
He formerly worked at Schult Homes in Elkhart & Liberty Homes in Syracuse for 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster, V.F.W. Post 1342 & Eagles Lodge both of Syracuse.
He is survived by:
Son – Glenn (wife, Kellie) Laughlin of New Paris
Granddaughter – Samantha Sinn& 3 Gt. Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 sisters – Frances Trimmer and Marjorie Wiles & 2 brothers – Dewey & Archie Laughlin.
Visitation will be from 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27, 2010 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the Syracuse Cemetery with Kevin Rhoads of the Red Zone Christian Church officiating. Military rites will be preformed at the grave by American Legion Post 253.
