O. Lucille Kammerdiener

June 2, 1934 — October 12, 2023

Syracuse

O. Lucille “Lucy” Babcock Miller Kammerdiener, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at the age of 89. She was born in Warsaw, Indiana on June 2, 1934, to Alto J. and Catherine Babcock (Kehr).

She was a 1952 graduate of Syracuse High School. Lucy married Lloyd Kammerdiener on August 3, 1963, near Peru, Indiana. The two shared 54 blessed years together before his passing in November of 2017. She was a longtime active member of Syracuse Church of God, and was a devout Christian, who followed the Lord.

Lucy was a licensed daycare provider in her home for 43 years before retiring in 2009. She helped others raise their children and potty trained more than half of Kosciusko County!  Her caring and nurturing personality made her job not only a career but a true passion. Every morning Lucy would make sure to have her hair done and make-up on, while enjoying a cup of coffee, prior to the first daycare child to arrive at 5:00 a.m. She was the “perfect” homemaker. Lucy enjoyed baking and was a gifted seamstress. She enjoyed playing the piano and played for Sunday services at times. Her family, which included her daughter’s friends and their families, called Lucy’s home “their home”. She knew how to make everyone feel welcome.

When Lucy wasn’t taking care of her family and friends, she enjoyed the lakes, talking on the phone, and the wheeling and dealing of garage sales. She passed this joy on to her family, especially to her children and grandchildren. She also loved to play card games. She was an excellent Bunco and Uno player. She loved time spent out on the Dixie Boat in North Webster and that is where she and Lloyd celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Lucy was truly one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew her.

Those who survive with broken hearts include her two daughters, Amy Sue (Jon) Lippe of Claypool and Cathy Marie (Mike) Coy of Syracuse; five granddaughters, Alissa Hewitt of Huntington, Cayla( Kaitlyn) Coy of Elkhart, Tiffany (Travis) Goff of Leesburg, Liza Lippe and Madelyn Lippe of Claypool; one grandson, Bryce Lippe of Claypool; two great grandchildren, Greyson Goff and Brynlee Goff; four step grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; two great great step granddaughters, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death in addition to her husband Lloyd, include her parents, a former fiancé Daniel Boocher Jr. of Bremen who was killed in a traffic accident a few months before their wedding; former husband, Wayne Miller; and their daughter, Tonda Kay Miller Hewitt; and a special uncle, Boyd “Bud” Kehr.
