Orlie J. Black, 83, of Leesburg, IN passed away at 8:03 p.m. on Sunday November 27, 2011 at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw, IN. He was born on May 21, 1928 in Leesburg, IN to Edward E. and Mamie F. (Roberts) Black.
He was a lifetime Leesburg (Black’s Landing) resident except for his 2 years in the Army at Camp Breckinridge, KY. He graduated in 1946 from North Webster High School and attended Purdue University. He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War and was married on June 14, 1953 in Reddick, IL to Dolores J. Gall who survives. He worked for Arnolt Corp in Warsaw for 20 years and then retired in 1991 from Whitley Products after 20 years of service where he was in charge of payroll at both companies.
He was a member of the North Webster Church of God, where he served on the committee of J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) and helped with the crafts for Bible School. He also enjoyed helping at the North Webster Elementary School with students in first grade on their reading, 2 days a week for nearly 10 years. He crocheted 100’s of hats for school children and adults who needed them including the Cardinal Center in Warsaw. He also crocheted numerous afghans for people in the nursing homes. He was an avid traveler and went on many mission trips in the U.S.A., Haiti and South America and attended Church of God world conferences in Europe, Korea, Japan, China, Australia and New Zealand.
He is survived by:

Daughter – Mrs. David (Joni L.) Bowerman of Port St. Lucie, FL
Son – Lynn A. Black of Orlando, FL
3 Grandchildren - Mrs. Tommy (Jessica) Sprague, Nathan Bowerman & Jeremy (wife, Channing) Bowerman
3 Sisters – Rosella (Rosie) Hardy, Mrs. Glen (Shirley) Butler, and Donna Bevington all of Leesburg, IN
He was preceded by his parents, daughter – Melissa Kay Black, sister – Margaret Black, 6 brothers – Ben Black, Doug Black, Ralph Roberts & 3 infant brothers.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 30, 2011 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13 & C.R. 500N, North Webster. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday December 1, 2011 at the Church of God, 302 N. Main St., North Webster with Pastor Jeff Boyer of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the North Webster Cemetery.

Memorial bequests may be given to the North Webster Church of God, P O Box 313, North Webster, IN 46555. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or the church.
