Patsy Carol Hanson, known to most as simply “Patty” or “mom” (regardless of relation), passed away peacefully on Monday, November 23, 2020 in Warsaw, IN. She was 66 years of age - but ageless in spirit.
Patty was born on October 10, 1954 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Bernard McCann and Jeanne (Pfeiffer) McCann - and was the youngest of seven children. She spent her formative years in Detroit Lakes, graduating from nearby Audubon High School and moving shortly after to Moorhead, MN to raise her family. She later retired to Warsaw, IN where she spent countless hours beating her big sisters in Scrabble.
Patty was a daycare provider for more than 34 years, with an unparalleled love for children and unwavering dedication to their care. She was incredibly creative, expressing herself in a variety of crafts and projects. And she loved her family - almost as much as she loved the Green Bay Packers. (Almost). She had a true zest for life. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and she enjoyed time with dear friends and family above all else.
Patty is survived by her best friend and significant other, Larry Fossum with whom she spent more than 27 loving years, and their blended family including children: Bridget (Andrew) Charon of Minneapolis, MN, Cody (Mara Stemm) Weigel of Minneapolis, MN, Brody Hanson of Moorhead, MN, Joshua (Lizzy) Fossum of Milford, IN and Heather (Aaron) Kolschefsky of Drake, ND. Also surviving are her brother Jerry (Bernice) McCann of Audubon, MN and three sisters: Karen (Terry) Roberts of Warsaw, IN, Nancy Guile of Leesburg, IN, and Marty Mattson of Michigan City, IN, as well as eight spirited grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her parents, sister Bernie Atrev and brother Steve McCann.
Patty was a lover of animals, often taking in strays on a temporary basis (and by temporary, we mean permanently) and spoiling them endlessly. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial gifts be directed to Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, PO Box 1906 Warsaw, Indiana 46581 or to your local animal shelter.
