Paul Dwyer

November 8, 1934 — February 16, 2017

Paul David Dwyer, known by many simply as “P.D.,” passed away on the morning of Thursday, February 16, 2017 in his Chapman Lake home. He was 82 at the time of his death.

Born on November 8, 1934 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he was the son of David John and Mary Elizabeth (Runkle) Dwyer. He graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School, Marion, Indiana, in 1952 and attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana before earning an Associate of Science in Drafting from University of Chicago.

P.D. entered active service with the United States Army on September 28, 1955 in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a Private, he was assigned to the 14th Medical Detachment where he served as a medical corpsman. SP4 Paul Dwyer was honorably discharged from active duty on September 6,1957 from Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He served for four more years with the US Army Reserves before discharging in September 1961.
On July 26, 1958, P.D. was united in marriage to Sondra “Sonnie” King in St. Paul’s Parish, Marion, Indiana. Together the two shared 58 years and many happy memories.

P.D. graduated from the School of Banking at University of Wisconsin. He worked in banking and finance for 16 years before purchasing Dwyer’s Mobile Home Park at Chapman Lake which he has operated with his family since October 26, 1979.

He had a good sense of humor and was always joking. He was very social and rarely knew a stranger. He enjoyed wood working, having built bird houses, planes and many other things. He loved fishing and watching Notre Dame football; he was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals and IU basketball fan. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

Above all, he was a family man – a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Those who experienced his everlasting love and treasure his memory include his wife, Sonnie Dwyer of Chapman Lake; four children: Jeff Dwyer of Leesburg, Greg (Becky) Dwyer of North Manchester, Lori (Ray Marple) Horney of Warsaw and Doug “David” Dwyer of San Jose, California; seven grandchildren: Tiffany (Michael) Moore of Silver Lake, Justin (Kathrine) Dwyer of Silver Lake, Amber (fiancé, AJ Hicks) Dwyer of Corpus Christi, Texas, Heather Dwyer of Gainesville, Florida, Sara Dwyer of Gainesville, Florida, Jordan (Desiree) Horney of Dutton, Alabama and Lauren (Cody Cyr) Horney of Warsaw; and six great-grandchildren: Lillian, Hunter, Taylen, Jaxson, Brody and Jase.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Dwyer; his mother and father-in-law, Gerry and Paul King, and a son-in-law, Joseph Scott Horney.
