Phillip A. Amones, of Leesburg and formerly of Wabash, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife on Monday, November 20, 2023,at the age of 76. Known to most as “Phil”, he was born on July 24, 1947, in Wabash, Indiana to Oliver and Edith Amones (Senff).
After graduating from Northfield High School, Phil joined the United States Navy, serving our country from 1967 to 1970.
Phil's commitment to his community was evident throughout his career. He served the people of Wabash for many years. From 1971 to 1995, he worked for the Wabash City Police Department. After retiring from the police department, he later worked for the Wabash County Highway Department from 1998 to 2010.
Beyond his professional accomplishments and military service, Phil cherished spending time with his family above all else. His loving wife,Ellen K Amones (Kohlmeyer), stood by his side throughout their journey together. They were united in marriage on July 4, 1970. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love and joy. The two spent their lives raising their two sons, Reid and Jonathan.
Phil had a range of hobbies and interests that brought him happiness. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching old Westerns. Phil also had an adventurous spirit and loved traveling to new places, embracing new experiences along the way.
Along with his wife, Ellen, Phil is survived by his sons, Reid (Brandi) Amones and Jonathan (Erin) Amones; grandchildren, Julia, Elizabeth, Phillip, Reina, Halle, and Kohlee; and brother, J. (Karen) Amones. He was preceded in passing by his parents.
