Phyllis C. Denny, 94, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 12:50 PM in Millers Merry Manor, Warsaw, Indiana.
Born May 31, 1920 in Curtisville, Indiana, Phyllis was one of five children born to Thomas G. “Jake” and Hazel (Heflin) Ault. She would marry Russell Woodruff in 1937.
Phyllis would spend most of her life in Tipton and Kosciusko counties in Indiana. She was a cook in many local restaurants over the years.
On November 24, 1949 she and Francis “Fran” Denny were joined in holy matrimony and would share 59 years together.
Phyllis was a member of Warsaw Wesleyan Church. She liked to sit and watch birds and people. Phyllis and Fran enjoyed traveling and had been to every state in the union except Hawaii and Alaska. They also enjoyed getting together with Fran’s army buddies at planned reunions – some of which were held in Warsaw. Phyllis loved her family – including her stuffed monkey, Hersey. She often shared: “I have three sons: Carlton “Jay”, Russell “Dale”, and Rex Lee. They are the finest boys, you see. I love them and they love me. How do I know? They tell me so, BY GOLLY!”
Left with treasured memories are those 3 sons and the wives: Jay and Donna Woodruff, Warsaw; Dale and Janet Woodruff of Swansea, South Carolina; and Rex and Janet Woodruff of Spencer, Indiana; 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and several great, great grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 brothers and sisters-in-law: Tom and Marilyn Ault of Bridgeport, Illinois and Don and Martha Ault of Warsaw; and her sister, Wilma Jean Noggle of Carmel, Indiana.
Phyllis’ husband, Fran, would predecease her on December 19, 2008 as well as a brother, Joe Ault on November 16, 2001.
There will be a joint memorial service for Phyllis and Fran on Sunday, October 12th beginning at 2 PM at Warsaw Wesleyan Church, 2402 Old US 30W, Warsaw, Indiana 46580. Pastor Elissa Dodge (great granddaughter) of Hope Wesleyan Church, Independence, Iowa and Pastor Andy Weaver of Warsaw Wesleyan Church will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date.
The family has asked that gifts in memory of Phyllis be given to Warsaw Wesleyan Church.
The staff of Titus Funeral Home considers it a privilege and an honor to care for the family and friends of Phyllis C. Denny.
