Phyllis Jean Sahlhoff, a longtime resident of Bremen, Indiana, peacefully passed away at her home in Silver Lake on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the age of 98.
Born in Goshen, Indiana, on January 17, 1926, Phyllis was the daughter of Jacob and Mary Walterhouse. She married Edward Sahlhoff on September 12, 1948, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bremen, and they cherished 48 years together until his passing in 1996.
Phyllis graduated from Bremen High School in 1944 and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bremen throughout her life. Phyllis and Ed raised 5 children together. She took pride in her family and the many grand and great-grandchildren to come. Phyllis also enjoyed her work as a beautician and had a variety of hobbies; preferring sewing and gardening before losing her sight several years ago.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sahlhoff, her brother, Hilary Walterhouse, and her son, Kevin Sahlhoff.
She is survived by her children, Dana Sahlhoff, Henderson, KY, Gayle (John) Vautaw, Walton, IN, Lane (Trudi) Sahlhoff, Bremen, IN, and Tori Fehr, Silver Lake, IN. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
A Life Celebration visitation will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 605 S. Center Street, Bremen, IN 46506 on Saturday, July 27, 2024, between 2 pm and 4 pm. Remembrances can be made through contributions to the BrightFocus Foundation.
