Raymond David “Ray” Owen, 89, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Lakeland Rehab & Healthcare in Milford. He was born on September 3, 1921 in White Pigeon, MI to Russell & Grace Estelle (Thompson) Owen.
He graduated in 1940 from Taylor High School in Taylor, WI and was a United States Navy Veteran as a Chief Boatswain Mate on the USS LST 222. He was married on December 20, 1944 in Indianapolis, IN to Evelyn N. Perkins who survives. He was owner / operator of Beer & Owen, Inc. in Indianapolis for 25 years. He formerly was employed at W.A. Marschke & Sons and Hardware Appliance both of Indianapolis. He moved to Syracuse in 2006 from Indianapolis but had been a weekend & summer resident since 1958.
He was a member of the North United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, 32 nd degree Mason at Millersville Chapter #126, Murat Shrine Scottish Rite in Indianapolis and Landing Ship Tank Association.
He is survived by:
Wife – Evelyn Owen of Syracuse
2 Daughters – Kathy Owen of Speedway & Mrs. David (Donna) Petermann of Indianapolis
Son – Raymond (wife, Sally) Owen Jr. of Bourbonnais, IL
6 Grandchildren - Raymond Owen, III, Mark S. Owen, Mrs. Kevin (Amy) Mohl, Bret O. Petermann, Mrs. Stephen (Katie J.) Setcoski and Amber L. Hardwick
2 Sisters – Virginia Belmeyer of Lewisville, TX & Mrs. Buster (Ruth) Beverly of Orangeburg, SC
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister – Betty Smith, 3 brothers – Richard Robert, & Russell Owen.
Per Mr. Owen’s request there will be no visitation or services.

Memorial bequest may be made to the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana, P.O. Box 4204, South Bend, IN 46634. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
