Rex E. Lewis, 77, of Pierceton, IN passed away at 10:54 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born on May 27, 1934 in Lafayette, IN to Alfred E. & Vera E. (Purdy) Lewis.
He graduated in 1952 from Lafayette High School, 1956 from Ball State University and received his Master’s of Education Degree in 1960 from Purdue University. He was married on March 29, 1958 to Margene L. Dykhuizen who preceded him in death on June 8, 1998. He then married on January 1, 2002 in Lafayette, IN to L. Delores "Dee" (Stone) Grubb who survives. He retired in 1996 from Lafayette School Corporation after 40 years as a middle school math teacher and lived most of his life in Lafayette until he moved to the Barbee Lakes area in 2002.
He was a member of the North Webster United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Congress St. United Methodist Church in Lafayette, where he served as trustee for many years. He was a member of the Lakeland Kiwanis in North Webster and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. He formerly was a member of the Lions Club in Lafayette. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, woodworking and watching anything to do with the Civil War.

Step Son – Matthew Grubb of Owosso, MI

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the North Webster United Methodist Church, 7822 E. Epworth Forest Rd., North Webster, IN 46555. Memorial services will follow at 1:00 on Wednesday at the church with Pastor David Smitley of the church officiating.
