Richard E. “Dick” Boyer, 76, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 12:10 PM in his Warsaw, Indiana home.
Dick was born in Warsaw on August 10, 1939 to Samuel Franklin and Emma (Tompkins) Boyer. He was a 1957 graduate of Warsaw High School.
Dick enlisted into the United States Navy in Warsaw and entered into active service duty August 7, 1957 as a machinist mate on the USS Carter Hall in the Pacific. E-5 Richard Eugene Boyer was honorably discharged October 20, 1960 from the U.S. Naval Station in Long Beach, California.
On February 3, 1962 in First Baptist Church of Warsaw, Dick took Jeannine Stamper to be his wife.
He was a lifelong resident of Kosciusko County. His family and his grandchildren were his love. He enjoyed fishing, camping and was a passionate golfer – especially with his friend Phil Cartwright and his golf buddies in Berrien Springs, Michigan. He was a member of the Pierceton American Legion Post 258. Dick was creative. Even after a 1967 auto accident left him legally blind he graduated from Purdue at IU Purdue Fort Wayne with an Associate Degree in Computer Science.
In addition to Jeannine – his loving wife of 54 years, Dick is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Laurie and Vern Fredericks, Warsaw; Lisa and Ryan Frauhiger of Bluffton, Indiana; and Lindy and Darrell Dingess, Larwill, Indiana; son and daughter-in-law: Troy and Nanyamka Boyer, Texas; 9 grandchildren and their spouses: Sarah Fredericks and Jordan Fredericks – both of Warsaw; Shanda (and Steve) Kopp, Grand Rapids, Michigan; Matthew (and Jessica) Thomas of Savannah, Georgia; Lucas Thomas, Kalamazoo, Michigan; Justin Shockley of Holden Missouri; TJ Boyer, Tatiana Boyer, Trinity Boyer and Josiah Boyer – all in Texas; 1 step grandson: Dewayne Dingess of Royal Center, Indiana; 3 step great grandchildren; and 1 step great, great grandchild.
Dick was preceded in passing by his parents, 2 sisters: Mary Heisler and Esther Prater; brother: Tommy Boyer; and step granddaughter: Tammy Thomas.
Friends and family are welcome to a time of visiting Thursday, May 19th from 4-8 PM in Titus Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the service. A service celebrating Dick’s life will take place Friday, May 20th at 12 o’clock noon. Pastor Steve Rahn of First Baptist Church of Warsaw and Pastor Bob Brown of God’s Highway to Heaven Church will officiate.
Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 258, Pierceton, Indiana.
The family has asked that memorial gifts be made to the family and will be used at their discretion. Please make your gift payable to Jeannine Boyer.
