Richard F. Shipley Sr., 77, of Cromwell, IN passed away Sunday, November 06, 2011 at his home. He was born on December 25, 1933 in Fort Wayne, IN to Ralph L. & Elenor E. (Stellhorn) Shipley.
He graduated in 1952 from North Side High School in Fort Wayne. He was married on August 22, 1953 in Fort Wayne to Opal L. Evans who preceded him in December 1980. He moved to the Syracuse area in 1966 from Fort Wayne and lived briefly in Leesburg, FL. He served in the United States Navy Reserves and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association in Oshkosh, WI. He retired in 1975 from the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette after 25 years of service. He also worked as a purchasing agent in the manufacturing industry in Northern Indiana.
He is survived by:

5 Sons – Richard (wife, Valerie) Shipley Jr. of Cromwell, Rob Shipley of Cromwell, Randy (wife, Clarissa) Shipley of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Rex (wife, Shirley) Shipley of Cromwell, & Roger (wife, Nancy) Shipley of Goshen, IN

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister – Sharon Bunnell.
Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the funeral home with Rev. Harlan Steffen officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
Memorial bequest may be given to the American Cancer Society, 601 W. Edison Rd., Mishawaka, IN 46545. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
