Richard A. "Dick" Taylor

September 20, 1941 — July 7, 2018

Richard Allen “Dick” Taylor, 76, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 9:57 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at I.U. Health Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He was born on September 20, 1941 in Bangor, MI to Charles Wesley “Pete” & Thelma Mae (Galbraith) Taylor.

He attended Bangor High School in Bangor and served in the United States Marines. He was married on April 24, 1965 in South Haven, MI to Helen G. Reiland who survives. He moved to the Cromwell / Syracuse area in 1965 from Michigan. He retired in 2002 from Armbruster Farms after 10 years as a maintenance and repair man and was formerly employed at Rinker Boats in Syracuse & Supreme Corporation in Goshen.

He attended St. Martin’s de Porres Catholic Parish in Syracuse and was a member of American Legion Post 223 in Syracuse.  He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and was an avid bowler in Syracuse.

He is survived by:

Wife – Helen Taylor of Syracuse

3 Daughters – Marcia (Scott) Hiatt of Elkhart, Teresa (Brian) Weideman of Milford, and Melissa (David) York of Gaffney, SC

Son – Brian (Patricia) Taylor of Dayton, OH

8 Grandchildren

2 Sisters – Shirley Barter of Bremen & Ruth Ann Haggard of Ligonier

2 Step Brothers – David (Tracy) Smeltzer & Mark (Cindy) Smeltzer both of Mountain Springs, MO

Numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother – Bill Taylor.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will take place from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Military honors will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday by American Legion Post 223 & the United Stated Military Honor Guard.
