Robert V. “Bob” Abbott passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 1:54 p.m. in Parkview Wabash Hospital, Wabash, Indiana. He was 83 years old. Although he was a resident of Warsaw, he had spent many years living in Columbia City, Indiana.

Born on March 26, 1933, he was the son of Oscar V. Abbott and Ruth A. (Sutherland) Abbott. He was a 1951 graduate of Leesburg High School.

Enlisting in the United States Navy on April 25, 1951, Bob served most notably on the USS Blue escorting aircraft carriers in the Pacific Fleet’s Task Force 77. Petty Officer Third Class Robert V. Abbott was honorably discharged on March 7, 1955 in Long Beach, California.

On December 18, 1955, Bob was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marjorie I. Huffman. Together the two shared 45 years and many memories.

Bob enjoyed gardening and always cared for a large vegetable garden. He also enjoyed raising livestock on the family property and was known for his strong work ethic. He was a member of American Legion Post 253 in North Webster, Indiana.

Those surviving him include son, John (wife Jill) Earl of Columbia City; sisters, Deloris June Abbott of Auburn, IN, Doris Jean Sewell of Columbia, TN, Linda (husband Ron) Pekerul of Burlington, CT; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Those who preceded him in death include his wife, Marjorie in 2000; daughter, Teresa Chappel in 2006; brother, John Abbott in 1962 and sisters, Mary LaRue in 1995 and Carolyn Taylor in 2004.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 31st at 12 o’clock noon in Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw with Pastor Bob Jarboe of Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice officiating. Visitation will take place for one hour before the service. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by members of North Webster’s American Legion Post 253.
Gifts in Bob’s memory may be made at the funeral home to K21 Health Foundation Cancer Care Fund PO Box 1810 Warsaw, Indiana 46581-1810.
