Robert A. "Bob" Carlson

Robert A. "Bob" Carlson, 68, of Syracuse, IN, passed away at 1:06 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2018, at Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart, IN. He was born on August 7, 1949, in Goshen, IN, to Max H. & Ruth E. “Eloise” (Richhart) Carlson.

He graduated in 1967 from Syracuse High School, attended Ball State University in Muncie, IN, and Emporia State Teacher’s College in Emporia, KS. He was a United States Army veteran and was married on January 8, 1972, in Ft. Leavenworth, KS, to Lorena B. “Rena” Smith who survives. He was the owner/operator of Maxwelton Golf Club since 1986 where he had been a Golf Pro since 1975. He lived in the Syracuse area most of his life except for 5 years where he resided in Colorado and Kansas.

He formerly attended the Grace Lutheran Church in Syracuse. He was a dedicated volunteer for many organizations, donating his time and golf course for many local charities and fund raisers.

He is survived by:

Wife – Rena Carlson of Syracuse

Daughter – Brandee M. (Matthew) Foley of Fishers

2 Grandchildren – Aidan & Bridget Foley

Brother – Steven (Ruth) Carlson of Bristol

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Memorial services will follow at 7:00 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home with Rev. Chris Lantz of LaGrange First United Methodist Church officiating.
