Ronald E. Miller, a cherished educator, beloved family man, and devoted member of his community, passed away peacefully in his Claypool home with his family by his side on August 26, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on January 12, 1932, in Warsaw to Vernon and Mary (Pfleiderer) Miller, Ron's life was filled with rich experiences and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
A proud veteran, Ron served in the US Army during the Korean War as a typist, earning accolades such as the Bronze Service Star and the United Nations Service Medal for his honorable service. After returning from military duty, Ron pursued his passion for teaching, ultimately earning a master’s degree in education. He shared his knowledge and enthusiasm as a high school business teacher for Fort Wayne community schools, where he shaped the lives and futures of countless students.
Ron was a character in the truest sense, known for his strong family values and his dedication to friends. He was a devout Christian, eagerly sharing his faith as a Sunday School Teacher and embracing his role as a mentor within the Silver Lake Wesleyan Church, where he volunteered his time selflessly.
Throughout his life, Ron found joy in the simple pleasures, from spending time with his beloved family, a pastime that brought him immeasurable happiness, to indulging in his hobbies as an avid reader, particularly of westerns, and an enthusiastic gardener, who nurtured a giant, thriving vegetable garden. His love for the outdoors was evident in his fondness for fishing and enjoying the waters at the Cottage in Elk Rapids, Michigan with friends and family.
On June 8, 1973, he married Kathryn, bringing together a blended family with six children: Robin Ashburn, Kent (Patty) Miller, Karl (Marcia) Ruetz, Henry (Linda) Ruetz, Kurt Miller, and Amy (Scott) Dean. He also delighted in the joy of family gatherings, relishing the company of his 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and his great-great-granddaughter, Stella. Ron is further survived by his first wife, Sherry Amundson, a niece, and two nephews.
Ron was predeceased by his loving wife, Kathryn in 2010, his parents, grandsons Dustin Miller and Tobin Fry, granddaughter Sierra Miller, brother Raymond (Betty) Miller, and son-in-law Terry Ashburn.
Titus Funeral Home and Cremation Services is entrusted with Ron's care. The visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Titus Funeral Home in Warsaw from 10:00AM until 12:00PM. A memorial service honoring Ron's remarkable life will immediately follow with Pastor Sitez officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Claypool Lion's Club, Heart to Heart Hospice, or to the American Cancer Society.
