Rowena K. Brewer, 97, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Lakeland Rehab & Healthcare in Milford, IN. She was born on February 5, 1913 in Syracuse, IN to Esten Samuel and Blanche O. (Strieby) Kline.
She grew up in Syracuse and graduated in 1931 from Syracuse High School. She was married on September 28, 1940, in Kendallville, IN to Paul D. Brewer who preceded her on March 16, 1988. She lived in Indianapolis until 1952, when her family moved to Dewart Lake.
She was a homemaker and retired in 1983 from the Syracuse Rubber Company after 16 years of service. She and her husband owned & operated the Dewart Lake Inn in the 1950’s and she formerly worked at GE in Fort Wayne, and the Milford Chair Factory. After retirement she worked part time for Owen Family Funeral Home in Syracuse for 4 years as a greeter.
She attended the Syracuse Baptist Church (formerly Zion Chapel) and was a former member of the Goodwill Home Economics Club, Syracuse, American Legion Post 223 Auxiliary in Syracuse, & Order of the Eastern Star in Indianapolis.
She is survived by:
1 Son – Reece Alan Brewer of Warsaw
9 nieces and nephews; Several Gt. and Gt. Gt. nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son - Paul Brewer, 2 sisters – Erba Gardner & Lois Brown, 3 brothers – Duane, Harold, & John Kline
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 13, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery.
Memorial bequests may be given to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
