Ruby Landrum (Larson)

September 19, 1910 — October 2, 2013

Ruby Landrum, of Winona Lake Indiana, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, October 2nd, 2013 surrounded by family in their shared home on Sunday Lane.
Ruby was born in Minden, Nebraska on September 19, 1910 to Frank and Hannah Nielsen Larson. The family soon moved to Ripon, California where Ruby grew up and graduated with honors from Ripon Union High School in 1928. She graduated from the Bible Institute of Los Angeles (BIOLA) with a Bible degree in 1930 and received her R.N./Nursing degree from the Los Angeles School of Nursing in 1932. While at BIOLA, she met Clyde Landrum from Lost Creek, Kentucky. Upon Clyde’s graduation in 1936 with an advanced teaching degree from Morehead State University (KY), they were married at the Landrum family home in Lost Creek.
Ruby was a life long registered nurse, having worked at hospitals in Jackson, KY; Louisville, KY; Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw, IN; Uniontown Hospital in Uniontown, PA; and Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw. She retired from KCH in 1990 at the age of 80 but worked for two more years at Grace College in the Nurse’s Office, helping students and finally retiring formally at the age of 82 in 1992.
Besides nursing, Ruby loved serving as a full time pastor’s wife with Clyde. They were the founding pastors at Leesburg, IN; Warsaw Community and Lexington, KY Grace Brethren churches, and pastored at Grace Brethren churches in Uniontown PA, and Lost Creek KY. Ruby and Clyde were also instrumental in the founding of their beloved Warsaw Christian School in Warsaw, IN.
Ruby was also an accomplished gardener and seamstress, and dedicated matriarch to her sons, daughters in law, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Phillip Ray Landrum (spouse Lois Kay Nagel), Wheaton, IL; and Gerald Richard “Jerry” Landrum (spouse Kathleen Marie Miller), Winona Lake, IN. She has 5 grandchildren; Anita Kay Witt (spouse Matthew), Val Ann Harder (spouse Christopher), Elizabeth Landrum, Timothy Landrum (spouse Julie Anna), Rachel Landrum, and 3 great-grandchildren, Mei Ling Witt, Aaron Witt and Amelia Landrum.
She was preceded in death by her Mother, Hannah; Father, Frank; Brothers Chris and George; Sister, Laura and Husband, Clyde.
Visitation will be at Community Grace Church, 909 S. Buffalo in Warsaw, Saturday at 3:00 PM followed by a Homegoing Celebration at 4:00 PM. Internment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw with a private graveside service. Presiding Community Grace Church pastors, Roy Chapin and Andy Galvin.
