Ruth M. "Maxine" Hughes

Ruth M. “Maxine” Hughes, 91, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday January 14, 2014 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw, IN. She was born on October 11, 1922 in Plymouth, IN to J. D. & Bessie M. (Crist) Leiter.

She attended Mentone Public Schools and moved to Syracuse in 1942 from Warsaw.  She was married on January 12, 1942 in LA Porte, IN to Guy W. Warner who preceded her in death and then on November 28, 1971 in Syracuse she married Harold H. (Jesse) Hughes who preceded her on June 18, 2007. She formerly worked for Syracuse Rubber Company for 16 years and also was a self employed cleaning lady for many years. She enjoyed working in her yard and gardening.

She was survived by:
Daughter – Laura L. Warner of Syracuse
3 Sons – Larry D. Warner of Mesquite, NM; James R. Warner of CA; & Richard A. (Pam) Warner of Middleburg, FL
1Grandson, 2 Gt. Grand, Several Step Grand, & Several Step Gt. Grandchildren
2 Sisters – Phyllis Forbes of Wabash & Norma Moyer of Akron
2 Brothers – Richard Leiter of Warsaw & David (Jackie) Leiter of Mentone

She was preceded by her parents, both husbands, & brother – Robert Leiter.

Visitation will be 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor Brad Cox of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Syracuse.

Memorial bequest may be given to Syracuse Fire Department or E.M.S., 402 N. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN 46567. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
