Ruth S. Hostler, 89, of North Webster, IN (formerly of Chicago area) passed away at 3:10 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Lakeland Rehab & Healthcare in Milford, IN. She was born on September 8, 1923 in Cincinnati, IN to George William & Henrettia (Hussar) Selig.
She graduated in 1942 from High School and received an Associate Degree from Triton College in ornamental Horticulture. She also attended Medical Lab School, Graduate School of Cook County Hospital in Histology and Floral Design School. She was married on April 23, 1950 in Chicago, IL to Charles W. Hostler Jr. who preceded her in death on May 7, 1997. She was a histology technician for 30 years working at several hospitals including Cook County Hospital, Hines VA Hospital & West Side VA Hospital all near Chicago, IL. She also formerly worked for American Can Co. Research. She lived most of her life in Chicago area before moving to North Webster in 2009.
She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Elmhurst, IL, former member of O.E.S. & formerly attended Country Bible Church in North Webster and Seventh Day Adventist Church in Warsaw. She sang in the Northwestern Railroad Choral Club where they performed in the Northwestern Train Depot during the holidays. She played the violin and flute and used her floral design talents to do numerous weddings.
She is survived by:

1 Niece – Billie (Tom) Lavin of North Webster
2 Gt. & 2 Gt. Gt. Nieces & Nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents & husband.
Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Seventh Day Adventist Church, 246 W. Butterfield, Elmhurst, IL. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Pastor Glenn Hill officiating. Private entombment will take place at the Oakridge Cemetery in Hillside, IL.
