Shirley L. Young

Shirley L. Young, 78, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Millers Merry Manor in Syracuse. She was born April 3, 1934 in Logansport, IN to Kermit B. and Edith A. (Kitson) Hunt.

She graduated in 1952 from Logansport High School and attended Western Union Business College in South Bend, IN.  She was married on December 27, 1952 in Logansport to Thomas Richard “Tom” Young who preceded her in January 2002. She moved to Syracuse in 1972 from Logansport. She formerly worked as an attendant at the Logansport State Hospital in Logansport, as a clerk at Meredith’s Dress Shop, The Next to New Consignment Shop in Syracuse, as a greeter at McDonald’s, & Ganshorn Printing Company in Syracuse.

She was a member of Wawasee Heights Baptist Church in Syracuse and The Red Hat Society in Syracuse.

She is survived by:
3 Sons- Frederick A. (wife, Cathy) Young of Syracuse; Thomas R. Young Jr. of Syracuse; Richard L. Young of Delphi
2 Daughters- Mrs. Charles (Linda) Oakley of Elkhart & Carol LeMaster of Chandler, AZ
8 Grand -Jennifer Cook Washington, Donny Nyce, Jason Cook, Brad Nyce, Kelly Nyce Wood, Lucas Young, Casey Young, Nathan Young & 11 Gt. Grandchildren
3 Brothers- Thomas (wife, Pat) Hunt of Rolla, MO; William Hunt of Logansport; David (wife, Kim) Hunt of Chesterton
2 Sisters- Mrs. Austin (Bessie) Harmon of Kissimmee, FL; Mrs. Zinney (Carol) Jones of Star City, IN

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband & brother – Jerry Hunt.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St, Syracuse, IN. Memorial services will follow at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home with Pastor Pat Park of the church officiating.

Memorial bequest may be given to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 13067, Alexandria, VA 22312. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
