Stephen Johnson

Stephen Homer Johnson, 70, of Fort Wayne, IN, was ushered into the arms of his Savior on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne. Steve was born in Huntington, IN, on April 6, 1946, to Wayne and Mary (Ahlfeld) Johnson. The second of four children and the son of a minister and homemaker, Steve grew up in Claypool, IN. He earned a Bachelors of Science in Business at Manchester University in North Manchester, IN. He later was awarded a Masters of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. He spent years in both the field of human resources and in the pastorate of several churches.
Steve was a loving father to two children: Jeffrey (Jenna) Johnson, of Hershey, PA, and Jennifer (Nathan) Peterman, of Bloomington, IN, seven grandchildren: Sullivan, Lia, and Evie Johnson and Deacon, Hudson, Vivian and Maeve Peterman. Steve’s children and grandchildren were both the source of his greatest pride and joy and the recipients of his undying love and affection.
Steve is also survived by his mother, Mary Johnson of Winona Lake, IN, his brother Jerry (Lois) Johnson of Claypool, IN, and his two sisters, Janet (Bud) Lentz of Mt. Pleasant, NC, and Barbara (Mike) Wolfe of Mesa, AZ. He is preceded in death by his father, Wayne Johnson, of Winona Lake, IN.
Steve was a gifted teacher of God’s word and shepherd of God’s people, compassionate counselor to many, ardent pipe organ enthusiast, voracious reader, avid Indy car and sprint car racing fan and bicyclist on the Fort Wayne River Greenway. Steve had an endearing way of bringing joy to others through his ability to see the humorous side of life.
The family will receive friends in a viewing from 12:00-2:00PM with a celebration of life service beginning at 2PM on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw, IN 46580. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Oaklawn Cemetery in North Manchester, IN.
Expressions of sympathy may be made as gifts to the Hannah Center, 808 North College Avenue, Bloomington, IN 47404.
