Steven R. Engle

Steven R. Engle, known to his family as “Big Bro” passed away unexpectedly on September 2, 2023, in his residence on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the age of 75. He was born on May 12, 1948, in Warsaw to Richard Glenn and Audrie Engle.

After graduating from Leesburg High School in 1966, Steve was drafted into the army and sent to Fort Campbell, KY where he graduated basic training in May of 1968. He was later sent to Fort Sill, OK for advanced artillery training. In December of 1968, he was sent to Vietnam. He was assigned to “H” company 29^th Field artillery and was assigned to the Search Lights. On September 12, 1968, Steve was in a firefight with an enemy and wounded. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Purple Heart. Steve later furthered his education by obtaining a bachelor's degree in Christian Education from Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, Nebraska. Professionally, Steve worked as a carpenter for many years before retiring.

Steve's strong faith as a Christian man was evident in every aspect of his life. He found joy in sharing the teachings of the Lord and was always eager to engage in conversations about spirituality.

As an avid outdoorsman, Steve loved fishing, mushroom hunting, and travelling earlier in his life. He also was a devoted IU Basketball fan. He enjoyed watching the games and avidly supported the team.

Steve's memory will forever be cherished by his loved ones. He is survived by his sisters, Christine (Kent) Ellinger and Gloria (John) Lowman. Additionally, he leaves behind nieces and nephews, Sheila, Jason, Eric, Dainon, and Alison, along with 6 great nieces, 2 great-nephews, extended family members, and his best dog friend, Wally. He is preceded in passing by his parents.

Titus Funeral Home is entrusted with the care of Steve and his family. A gathering will take place on Sunday September 17, 2023, at Lucerne Park, 800 N Park Ave. Warsaw, IN, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. Friends and family can meet in the parking area and then there will be a time for sharing and memories. Memorial contributions may be made to Titus Funeral Home for funeral expenses.
