Terry Baker

Terry L. Baker, of Silver Lake, passed away at Parkview Randallia Hospital on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the age of 74. Born on February 7, 1950, in Warsaw, IN, he was the son of Wilbur and Cora (Marvel) Baker. He led a remarkable life filled with diverse experiences and unwavering dedication to his work, passions, and family. 

Terry's military service reflected his patriotism and courage. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1970 and was awarded the Bronze Star for his exemplary service to his country.

Terry's professional journey was diverse and impressive. In 2002, he earned his real estate license and later established his own business, Kosciusko County Lakes Realty, in 2005. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to ownership of a gas station and involvement in car sales. Additionally, Terry worked for United Telephone and served as a bail bondsman. His work ethic was unparalleled, and his commitment to his various endeavors was unwavering.

Aside from his professional accomplishments, Terry was known for his vibrant personality. Described as hardworking and always willing to lend a helping hand, he never encountered a stranger. One of his most distinctive traits was his infectious laughter - a boisterous and loud sound that signaled his presence even before he entered the room.

In addition to his successful career and amiable nature, Terry also dedicated time to his hobbies and interests. An avid racer at the Warsaw Motor Speedway, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame Class of 2017. Alongside his brothers, racing filled Terry with joy. A devoted NASCAR fan, Talladega Speedway held a special place in his heart. He also held a pilot's license and took pleasure in flying when he was younger. Traveling with Gloria and visiting his daughter in Alaska brought him great happiness. 

Terry will be deeply missed by his loving daughter Terra (Jerry Lumba) Fields-Lumba; devoted fiancée Gloria Halterman; cherished grandsons Thane Baker, Dorian Baker, and Maximus Lumba; caring brothers Jerry Baker and Gary Baker; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will treasure his memory forever. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Eric Baker in 2020; and brothers Larry (Mary) Baker and Danny Baker.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Silver Lake Conservation Club Building. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Wheels on Fire Cancer Crusade.
