Tom “Brummy” Brumfield, age 75 and lifetime resident of Warsaw, passed away at Goshen Hospital on Sunday, March 22, 2020 after bravely battling cancer.
Tom was born on December 6, 1944 in Warsaw to Robert “Bob” Brumfield and Margaret “Muggsie” (Moon) Brumfield. Tom attended Warsaw schools and graduated from Warsaw High School with the class of 1963. While in school, he worked in his family’s restaurant, The Tiger Cage. After graduating, he went to work for Zimmer where he would spend more than 43 years.
Tom loved time spent outdoors – he liked to hunt, fish and found solace in mowing yards. He enjoyed watching his grandsons race and liked to BS with friends at B-Macs, Stacys and Sheila’s Sweet Treats. Sarcastic and witty, Tom had a gruff exterior and liked to think he was intimidating when, he was one of the most kind, caring people around. His gruff demeanor was useful to him when he took a second job with the Kosciusko County Sheriffs Department as a deputy and civil processor.
On February 22, 1973, Tom was married to Patricia “Patty” Lockridge. The two spent nearly more than twenty-two years together before her unexpected passing. His brother, Doug Brumfield and sister, Bamby Van Dyke also preceded him in passing as did their parents. Those who survive with memories to cherish include son: Robert Brumfield of Leesburg; daughter, Debbie Brumfield (Jason Penrose) of Walkerton; grandsons: Justin Brumfield (Erin Kintzel) of Warsaw. Austin Brumfield (Noelle Lindsey) of Warsaw and Coltin Brumfield of Warsaw and two great-grandchildren, Adalynn and Emmalynn.
The family will welcome friends at Warsaw's Center Lake Pavilion, 119 East Canal Street in Warsaw on Saturday, July 18 from 2 to 6 p.m. Titus Funeral Home assisted the family with burial at Oakwood Cemetery; burial was held at the time of his passing.
