Biography
Virginia Elizabeth King, age 94, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 4:45 PM in Warsaw’s Kosciusko Community Hospital.
Virginia was born on December 25, 1922 in Warsaw. She was the daughter of Hubert Victor and Lauretta Marie (Eiler) Short. She was a 1940 graduate of Warsaw High School.
On July 7, 1965 Virginia was married to Ralph A. King in Columbia City. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1997.
Virginia had worked as an LPN for McDonald Hospital until they closed. Before retiring, she worked for several area nursing homes.
An avid coin, tokens and medals collector, Virginia was a member of the Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio Tokens and Medals Society and a member of the American Numismatic Association. She was also a member of American Legion Auxillary, Post 98 in Columbia City. In her earlier years, she raised sheep on her Larwill farm; in her later years, she had enjoyed traveling with her husband, Ralph, before his death.
Those who survive include her son, Franklin Ray (spouse, Sharon) Jones, residing in Kerrville, Texas but originally of Warsaw; daughter, Mardelle Kay Bailey of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren: Melinda (spouse, Troy) Aranda of San Antonio, Texas, Nicole (spouse, Gabriel) Gonzalez of San Antonio, Texas, Denise (spouse, Kevin) Breen of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Douglas Kendel of Orlando, Florida, Robert Kendel of Orlando, Florida, Jennifer Montes of Orlando, Florida, Kathryn Miller of Altamonte, Florida; and great-grandchildren: Ireland Aranda, Khloe Gonzalez, Paul (spouse, Kathryn) Breen, Benjamin Armstrong, Lita Montes, Jacob Montes, Ruby Ann Miller, Robbie Bruce Kendel III and Aspen Kendel.
Virginia was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Jones, second husband, Robert Butts, and most recently by her husband Ralph King. She was also preceded by an infant sister, Emma Catherine Short.
Private services will be held with burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Larwill, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that gifts of sympathy be directed to Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, PO Box 1906, Warsaw, Indiana 46581-1906.
