Virginia “Ginger” (Smith) Powell, 87, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2014 in Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw, Indiana.
Ginger was born to Walter and Agnes (Harmon) Smith on May 23, 1927 in Atwood, Indiana. She was a 1945 graduate of Atwood High School.
She and Jack Nelson Powell were joined in marriage April 18, 1948 in Atwood, Indiana sharing 66 years of marriage together.
A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, she and her husband owned and operated the Clunette General Store for many years. After which, she was employed at Peoples State Bank in Leesburg for 40 years before retiring in 2000. She loved playing bingo and was a regular fixture at many games around Warsaw. Another favorite pastime was knitting afghans for babies having completed 100 in her lifetime.
She is survived by her husband, Jack, and two sons, Mike (Joan) Powell, Cincinnati, Ohio and Doug (Deb) Powell of Warsaw; three married grandchildren, Andy (Kate) Powell, Cincinnati, Ohio, Kevin (Melanie) Powell, Jasper, Indiana and Kate (Justin) Hickey, Columbus, Ohio; and six great grandchildren, Jack and Ben Powell, Cincinnati, Ohio, Carson and Callie Powell, Jasper, Indiana and Seth and Ryan Hickey, Columbus, Ohio.
Preceding her in death were her sisters, June Longenbaugh and Marg Williamson and her brother, Ned Smith.
The family will gather to greet friends and share in the celebration of Ginger’s life on Saturday, July 19th from 10 – 11 AM in Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, Indiana. A memorial service will take place at 11 AM officiated by Pastor Denny Bollenbacher. Burial will follow in the Leesburg Cemetery.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, gifts in Ginger’s memory be given to the Clunette Methodist Church, 4311 W 600 N, Leesburg, Indiana 46538
